Dr. Hellweg is an Assistant Professor in the department. His research interests include ethnographic field methods, history of anthropological theory, medical anthropology, anthropology of infectious disease, ethno-poetics, language and culture, peoples and cultures of Africa, and cultures and histories of West Africa. His education includes French Language Studies at the Université de Haute Bretagne, Rennes, France (1986-87); a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Carleton College (1988); Theater Studies at the Institut National de Théâtre, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (1993); a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Virginia (2001); and a NIMH Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS at Yale University.
