Dr. Brooks is an Assistant Professor with research interests in high school reform, teacher leadership, social and cultural dynamics of educational leadership, and leadership preparation. His research has been published in the Journal of School Leadership, the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership, the International Electronic Journal of Leadership for Learning, Florida Educational Leadership, and the Journal of Values and Ethics in Educational Administration, among other research journals. He authored and co-authored three entries in the Sage Encyclopedia of Educational Leadership and Administration and authored an entry in the forthcoming Sage Encyclopedia of Social and Cultural Foundations of Education. Brooks is also author of the book, The Dark Side of School Reform: Teaching in the Space Between Reality and Utopia (Rowman & Littlefield Education, 2006), a full-length sociological study of how teachers and administrators experience alienation during times of intense change. Dr. Brooks is also a contributor to the forthcoming edited volume, Radicalizing Educational Leadership: Toward a Theory of Social Justice (Sense Publishing). He is currently conducting a multi-year ethnographic study focused on urban high school leadership and editing a special issue of the Journal of School Leadership on Distributed Leadership.
