College Work Study Position
Qualifications:
1. Basic computer skills
2. Independent and efficient worker
3. Good attention to detail and patience/careful handling of fragile materials
4. Good interpersonal communication skills
5. Dependable and reliable
Responsibilities:
1. Summarize original, primary WW II documents and memoirs.
We have hundreds of collections that need a basic description of their contents. Some collections contain individual letters that must be carefully unfolded and organized before any summary can be undertaken. Memoirs, books, pamphlets, and oral history transcripts also require summaries.
2. Assist in preserving original documents, photos, and artifacts.
Given that many items are over 60 years old, patience and tender care must be taken when handling and performing any preservation tasks. Such tasks may include dismantling photos from frail papers, using special tapes to repair tears in original letters, scanning or photocopying onto acid-free paper, proper containerization of artifacts, maps, etc.
3. Clerical tasks as necessary.
As with any office, routine photocopying, stuffing envelopes, making labels, and filing are necessary, but requires only a short bit of time per week.
4. Other office & archival tasks, as needed
Our collections require constant monitoring, which includes cleaning of our closed-stack area and offices by thorough vacuuming on a regular basis. Other tasks as necessary.
5. Possible database entry duties
Our database is vital with information on all our collections and requires regular updating for staff and researcher use.
6. Possible assistance with newsletters, displays, etc.
Depending upon your skills and our needs, we may ask you to assist us with our “Briefing” that we email to our donors & friends, or with a current exhibit or display.
