The Public Broadcast Center at Florida State University houses radio stations committed to serving the people of north Florida, south Georgia and southeast Alabama. Building upon traditions of service established over forty years ago. For listeners of public radio 88.9 WFSU-FM, and it's three translator stations, offer live coverage of events that shape our lives. Featuring programs such as Morning Edition, All things Considered, Fresh Air, Talk of the Nation and local news programs. WFSU-FM has something to appeal to just about anyone. A founding member of National Public Radio, the station's call in programs and daily news coverage of state government are carried statewide over the Florida Public Radio Network. For classical music tune into 91.5 WSFQ-FM offering around the clock classical and fine arts programming. Performance Today, Adventures in Good Music, and the Metropolitan Opera are just a sample of the programing heard on WFSQ. The Radio Reading Service provides current news information especially for the hearing impaired listeners over special receivers. In 1995 the public radio center expanded its coverage area to offer a third full power station. 89.1 WFSW-FM broadcasting a mix of news, entertainment and classical music programing, serves the Bay County area from Panama City. Jim and Betty Kirk of Ocala, FL donated their 300 piece collection of antique radios and radio memorabilia to the public radio center in 1996 and is on permanent display in the station's atrium. Winners of numerous awards, from such professional noted as United Press International, the Associated Press, Florida Bar Media Awards and The Society of Professional Journalists, the Public Radio news staff is noted for their outstanding investigative and governmental reporting. Annual membership drives combined with business underwriting opportunities and community events have helped us earn one of the largest shares of any public radio service in the country. All of the Public Radio Center's programs from news and public affairs, classical and jazz music, award winning family programs, to dramas and documentaries are all made possible by the generous support from businesses, institutions and our members. A growing partnership between these entities, helps us use the power of broadcasting to improve the educational and cultural experiences of children and adults in our tri-state coverage area.
