FSU POLICE MAJ. LISA SPRAGUE TO BE PRESIDENT OF CAMPUS LAW ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATORS

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Lisa A. Sprague, associate director of Public Safety at Florida State University, will be named the 2008-2009 president of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, Inc. (IACLEA) on July 1 at the organization’s 2008 annual conference in Hartford, Conn.

Sprague is completing her one-year term as the president-elect. She had served as IACLEA treasurer from 2000 through 2007. Her term as president will run through June 30, 2009.

Sprague has held her position as associate director at FSU since May of 2003. She also has been chief of police at Truman State University in Missouri, director of the Department of Public Safety at Stetson University in Deland, Fla., and Lieutenant /Manager of Auxiliary Services at Cornell University in New York. In all, she has 30 years of campus law enforcement experience.

Sprague has served as an instructor at St. Charles County Law Enforcement Academy, Broome County Law Enforcement Academy, Missouri Sheriffs Academy and the Law Enforcement Training Center for Moberly Area Community College. She has been an advisory member for the University of Missouri Law Enforcement Training Institute and the Moberly Area Community College Law Enforcement Academy.

Currently, she is an adjunct instructor for the FSU College of Criminology and Criminal Justice. In addition to her class experience, she actively promotes continuing education of safety issues and annually makes presentations, publishes articles in Campus safety journals and conducts workshops on numerous topics.

Sprague, a certified police officer in Florida, also has been certified as a Generalist Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, National Security Clearance, Violent Patient Management Instructor, Victim Advocate Specialist, First Responder and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitator. She also holds a black stripe belt in taekwondo.

She maintains several professional affiliations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Florida Chiefs of Police, Florida University Chiefs of Police, and Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute Associates. She is frequently called on as an assessor for the Loaned Executive Management Assistance Program sponsored by IACLEA to provide management consultation and technical assistance to Association member agencies.

Sprague has served as president of the Missouri Association of Campus Law Enforcement administrators, chair of the Diversity Committee for the Missouri Police Chiefs Association and as the Missouri statewide subject matter expert for Cultural Diversity Materials for Mandated Curriculum for Police Officers.

Her record of public service is extensive. She currently serves on the Leon County Local Emergency Management Region 2 Committee, Regional Domestic Security Task Force, Regional Violent Crime Committee, and is an American Heart Association community board member, American Heart Walk captain and active contributor for the Special Olympics Organization. She has served as a past president of the Kirksville Kiwanis Club and is currently a board member of the Tallahassee Capital City Kiwanis Club. She has been past president of the Kirksville Coalition for Prevention of Alcohol Abuse, a member of the Kirksville Airport and Transportation Commission and an advisory member of the Missouri Department of Health Injury Control.

Sprague holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Miami and is in the process of completing a Master’s in Criminal Justice from Columbia College.
