Through the integration of teaching, research,
and service, the twofold mission of Florida State University is to provide
a comprehensive educational experience and to enhance the self-development
of all students.
A department within the Dean of Students, the mission
of the Student Disability Resource Center (SDRC) is to enhance the university
experience for students with disabilities. Our goal is to ensure a comprehensively
accessible college experience so that students with disabilities have
access to the same programs, opportunities, and activities as their
peers.
The SDRC is also committed to promoting access and awareness
among faculty members as well as within the larger University community.
In fact, FSU is noted for its accessibility and sensitivity to students
with disabilities.
While complying with the letter of the law, FSU
also embraces its spirit by providing accommodations to all students
with permanent or temporary disabilities to ensure that the entire range
of University programs are made accessible.
The shared philosophy of
FSU and the SDRC is one that promotes self-awareness, self-determination,
and self-advocacy in a comprehensively accessible environment. As the
primary advocate on campus for students with disabilities, the SDRC
works with the campus community to provide accommodations for the unique
needs of students both in and out of the classroom.
Procedures for filing a grievance under the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation
Act of 1973 are available in the FSU Student Handbook, at the SDRC,
and at the ADA Compliance Office (UCA 6209, 645-1458).
