Research Interests

Dr. Donna Fletcher's primary area of research interest is in the area of program, facility and societal accessibility for people with disabilities. She has a special interest in the area of accessibility to recreation and park venues, as well as the problem of illegal use of parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities. Dr. Fletcher is a Fellow in the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (formerly AAMR). She was awarded membership the Academy in Mental Retardation, and she has served on the national Board of Directors for the American Association on Mental Retardation as well as national president of the Recreation Division of AAMR. Dr. Fletcher has received numerous awards, including the Richard B. Dillard Award for Distinguished Leadership, Life Member status in the AAMR, and awards from F.S.U. which include a University Teaching Award and two Teaching Incentive Program awards. She has published in 28 articles in refereed journals and has 24 other publications. She has made 31 invited and/or refereed presentations at national conferences. Dr. Fletcher's is currently examining the effects of wheelchair simulation experiences on attitudes concerning accessibility, as well as the accessibility of state and local parks to people with disabilities.
