Description
Events contribute to the quality of our lives enriching our communities by providing opportunities to celebrate our diversity and common bonds. From a three hour event designed to generate awareness for non-profit organizations to multi-day conferences and exhibitions by professional associations to week long festivals in cities and towns, events touch the lives of many.
The event management professional must possess a unique combination of skills and techniques.
The Graduate Certificate in Event Management program is designed to provide online advanced education to professionals employed in areas responsible for managing events in areas such as:
- event planning management
- parks and recreation
- communications
- business
- public relations
- marketing
- sport management
- non-profit management
- resort and commercial properties
- hospitality industry
- meeting planning
- association management
- Federal, state, local government sectors
Program Information
This program requires 12 credit hours of course work offered online. Four courses will provide students with advanced knowledge and practical experience for work in events management. The education and skills learned in the courses will provide the latest techniques for today’s event management professional.
- LEI 5316 Event Planning Management (3 credit hours)
- LEI 5563 Event Marketing (3 credit hours)
- LEI 5317 Event Management Issues in Ethics and Risk Management (3 credit hours)
- LEI 5942 Practicum in Event Management (3 credit hours)
Admissions
Acceptance into the Event Management Certificate Program is based on the following requirement:
- Students with a Bachelors’ degree from an accredited institution are eligible to enroll as a graduate-level special student (non-degree seeking).
OR - Graduate students in good standing at Florida State University
- Current enrollment in Recreation and Leisure Services Administration (RLSA) graduate program.

Courses offered in the Event Management Certificate Program can be taken as part of a regular graduate program of study, or through enrollment as a part-time non-degree special student. Students may enroll in the courses without applying to the Event Management Certificate program; however, the certificate will only be awarded to students who have been accepted into the program. To receive the Event Management Certificate, students must complete the required twelve (12) hours of course work including the professional portfolio within a five year time period from the date of acceptance into the program and earn a grade of C or better.
Admission to the Event Management Certificate Program is neither a degree program nor a minor. However, up to twelve (12) hours of graduate level credit with a grade of "B" or better in each course may count toward the Master of Science degree in Recreation and Leisure Services Administration, provided the student qualifies for admission to the graduate degree program.
Transfer credit hours from other universities or colleges will not be accepted.

Students will be required to obtain an FSU/ACNS e-mail account in order to access the course website. In order to complete class requirements, class participants will need to be able to:

Costs
The courses in this program have been developed and are delivered by full-time faculty or by adjuncts who have repeatedly taught courses and/or have extensive experience in the events management industry. Distance learning students, therefore, have the same high quality instruction as students on the main campus, plus special assistance from Academic & Professional Program Services to insure success. The University Board of Trustees establishes tuition and fees. Distance learning students are expected to pay tuition and other associated fees.

We estimate the cost of books and course materials for an academic year to be $350.00. Students are responsible for the cost and shipping fees of all books and course materials.
