The meeting of the 60th Student Senate was called to order at 7:32 p.m. by Student Senate President Nathasha Cole. Senator Bastardo led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Moment of Silent Reflection:

MEMBERS TARDY/LATE (First Roll Call): Senators Entine (8:00), LaCroix (7:54), Richards (7:58), Sokos (7:43). Corrections: Brett Kushner is the Student Senate Pro Tempore. Student Comments: Dominique St. Fleur, Chair Student Leadership Council and BSAC member told the Senate they are linking students with prominent businesses in the Tallahassee area. He said that they have network lunches with the Rotary Club and networking events at Café Cabernet. Special Introductions and Announcements: None. Messages from the Executive Branch: Student Body President Joe O’Shea announced that there will be a pizza party hosted by President T.K. Wetherell on Tuesday, October 30, at the President’s house. He mentioned that the new house has been on the cover of Southern Magazine. O’Shea told the Senate that by state law he is mandated to give the State of Student Body Address and this will happen on Wednesday, November 7. Sara Sokola, Chief of Staff announced that elections for Chief and Princess will be held on Thursday, October 25. She also announced that the Clock and Seal dinner will be at 5:30 p.m., and Pow Wow takes place at 8 p.m. in the Civic Center. Sokola asked everyone to sign up for the Bobby Bowden True Seminole Tailgate party and also sign up for the drum tour tow hours before the game. Jessica Haskins, Diversity and Leadership Chair, told the Senate that the SGA Retreat was great everyone chose three ideas to work on for next year and five goals they wanted to accomplish in a week. President O’Shea told the Senate that he supports Bill 0 and he mentioned having a kick ball tournament with Senate. Messages from Agency and Bureau Directors, and SGA Organization Officers and Employees: Keenan Mahoney, IRHC Assistant Director, told the Senate that IRHC will be submitting a bid to SACCURH to attend their conference. He announced that IRHC is hosting a leadership seminar on Monday, October 29. Monique Velasquez, Asian Student Union Director, told the Senate that she just returned from a conference in Gainesville. She also announced that they will have their general body meeting on November 8 at 8:30 p.m. in the Union. Messages from the Congress of Graduate Students: None. Messages from the Senior Class Council: None. Messages from the Judicial Branch: None. Messages from the Union Board: Sadie Molinet, Union Board Chair, announced that their next meeting will be held on November 7, in the Grads Made Good Room. She urged everyone to vote in the Chief and Princess elections; and announced that Pow Wow tickets are $16.25. Messages from Campus Recreation: Adam Fox told the Senate that their first meeting will consist of working on the policy manual and he will bring the board to Senate so that they can introduce themselves. He asked everyone to please come out and get involved in intramural. Report of the Student Body Auditor: As of October 23, 2007, Senate Projects is $14,700.00. Committee Reports: Senate President Cole read off the committee appointments and asked the groups to meet and select a chair, vice chair and two members for the Sweepings Committee. Senator Harrison made a motion to have the Senate President reconsider putting Senator Eleni Sokos on the Budget Committee instead of Internal Affairs. After debating this issue, there was a vote taken and over three-fourth of the Senate agreed that Senator Sokos’ appointment should be reconsidered. Senate President Cole appointed Senator Sokos to Budget. Student Affairs - The committee elected Senator Briana Toole as Chair and Senator Melissa Coakley as Vice Chair. The committee elected Senator Brock Howard and Senator Kelly-Ann Fasano as Sweepings Committee members. The committee will meet on Sundays at 2 p.m. Budget-The committee elected Senator Eleni Sokos as Chair and Senator Zach Rosenkoetter as Vice Chair. The committee elected Senator Dan Dawson and Senator Steven Jackson as Sweepings Committee members. The committee will meet on Mondays at 6 p.m. Finance-The committee elected Senator Carter Harrison as Chair and Senator Patrick Emilien as Vice Chair. The committee elected Senator Carter Harrison and Senator Cornell Hamilton as Sweepings Committee members. The committee will meet on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Judiciary-The committee elected Senator Jeff Entine as Chair and Senator Oscar Bastardo as Vice Chair. The committee elected Senator Rickey Goins and Senator Nick Thompson as Sweepings Committee members. The committee will meet on Mondays at 6:15 p.m. Internal Affairs-The committee elected Senator Christal Richardson as Chair and Senator Brittney Guiddy as Vice Chair. The committee elected Senator Robert Thompson and Senator Ryan Schulte as Sweepings Committee members. The committee will meet on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Rules and Calendar - All committee Chairs are members of this committee, The committee will meet Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. in Senate Chambers. Sweepings-The committee elected Senator Carter Harrison as Chair and Senator Cornell Hamilton as Vice Chair. The committee will meet tomorrow at 3 p.m. Senate Confirmations: None. Consent Calendar: None. Bills First Reading: Bill 1 - Sponsored by Senator Cutler. A revision of $4,000.00 within the Pride Student Union from Contractual Services to Expense. Purpose: to restructure the PSU budget to account for the operating costs associated with the LGBTQ Student Resource Center. REFERRED TO FINANCE. Bill 2 - Sponsored by Senator Cutler. A revision of $500.00 within the Pride Student Union from Contractual Services to Food. Purpose: to restructure the PSU budget to account for the operating costs associated with the LGBTQ Student Resource Center. REFERRED TO FINANCE. Bill 3 - Sponsored by Senators Dawson, Guiddy and Loe. An allocation of $650.00 from Senate Projects to All Night Yahtzee Expense. Purpose: to fund the group’s travel for the A.N.Y. performance. REFERRED TO FINANCE. Bill 4 - Sponsored by Senator Harrison. An allocation of $3,552.00 from Senate Projects to Strozier Library. Purpose: to fund the extended hours in Strozier Library and the Union Computer Labs for exam week Fall 2007. REFERRED TO FINANCE. Bills Second Reading: None. Constitutional Amendments: None. Resolutions: Resolution 1 - Sponsored by Senator Toole. Subject: Amending the Rules of Procedure Rule 7.05, the Student Affairs Committee. REFERRED TO RULES AND CALENDAR. Unfinished Business: New Business: Senate Pro Tempore Brett Kushner conducted a Mock Senate where Bill 0 was failed by the Senate. Closing Announcements: James Lawrence, MARC Director, told the Senate that after he was sworn in as Chair of the Sports Club Funding Board he was told that he could not hold two major offices so he is resigning as Chair of the Sports Club Council and he will become Vice Chair of the Sports Club Council. He told the Senate that he is not in support of making Affiliated Projects Directors not be major offices. Senator Loe presented Senate President Cole with a “New” purse to replace the one that was stolen from her. Senator Omega told the Senate that she is running for Ms. Haitian Cultural Club and please come out to the pageant. Senator Sokos told the Senate that her sorority came in second at Skit Night. Senator James announced that Senator Richards birthday was yesterday and they will celebrate Saturday at Frog Pond. Senator Frady told everyone to wear black at Saturday’s game for Black Out Day. Senator Rosenkoetter announced that there is only one week left to turn in your orientation applications. Senator Kaufman announced that Senator Dawson’s birthday is Friday. Senate Pro Tem Kushner announced that there will be another Mock Senate on new Senators before Senate on next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Senate Chambers. Senate President Cole thanked the Senate for participating in the Mock Senate. She asked Senators to please attend agency events and Homecoming events and vote for Chief and Princes.
