The meeting of the 59th Student Senate was called to order at 7:34 p.m. by Student Senate President Kourtney Hahn. Senator Broom led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Moment of Silent Reflection: There was a moment of silence for former FSU President Bernie Sliger.
MEMBERS PRESENT (First Roll Call): Senators Anderson, Angulo, Broom, Cole, Cuyler, Emilien, Entine, Fasano, Faeh, Firat, Gardner, Hamilton, Harrison, Holman, Hooper, Kaufman, Kushner, Loe, Michel, Oliver, Paul, Pringle, Richards, Rosenkoetter, Schulte, Segura, Singh, Slydell, Thompson, Toole. MEMBERS ABSENT: (First Roll Call): Senators Coakley, Fishel, Haugen, Linsey, Mariea, Reaves, Sokos. Student Comments: Senator Faeh wants someone to put a bill on to create a Media Center that will be dedicated to serving as a public relations tool for SGA and move Student Publications under this bureau. He also wants someone to do a resolution to change how we do committee as a whole. Special Introductions and Announcements: None. Messages from the Executive Branch: Sara Sokola, Chief of Staff, announced that there will be a retreat on Saturday from 12:30-4:30 in the COGS Chambers. She also announced that there will be an AIDS walk on Thursday. Messages from Agency and Bureau Directors, and SGA Organization Officers and Employees: Shawn Mahoney, IRHC Assistant Director, told the Senate that they now have an office in the Union. Jose Requena, HLSU Director, told the Senate that they are having a financial workshop on tomorrow that is co-sponsored with SGA Cabinet and a self-defense workshop in Tully Gym on October 12, at 6:30 p.m. and they will participate in COBOL Showcase on October 13. David Grimes, ILS Director, told the Senate that USSA Board of Directors approved their budget. He said they also thanks the Senate for passing the resolution. He said that he has a meeting with Provost Abele. Grimes asked the Senate to go to Committee of the Whole so that he can have his officers in place so that they can register as an RSO. Pedro Gassant, Black Student Union President, told the Senate that he was glad Bill 119 was failed in committee. He announced that the COBOL Showcase is on Saturday, October 13. Zach Dryden, PSU Director, thanked the Senate for passing the resolution supporting the Coalition for an Equitable Community. He announced that National Coming Out Day is tomorrow and please show your support by wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt. Hillary O’Neil, FSU Service Corp Director told the Senate that the University of Miami has challenged FSU to a blood donor drive and FSU will take donations on Monday and Tuesday. She said it would be great to beat them on the field as well as off the field. Messages from the Congress of Graduate Students: None. Messages from the Senior Class Council: None. Messages from the Judicial Branch: None. Messages from the Union Board: Sadie Molinet, Union Board Chair, introduced Maria. She announced that the Union Board will hold hearings for the funding boards on next week. She announced that there next meeting will be on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in 311 A Union and they will vote on Union policy at that time. She said they added a five minute open public forum at every meeting. Messages from Campus Recreation: None. Report of the Student Body Auditor: As of October 9, 2007, Senate Projects is $14,700.00. Committee Reports: Student Affairs - Did not meet. Budget - 10-8-07 Chairman Entine said the committee met to create Resolutions 64 and 65 and they are working with BSAC on a lot of issues. He told the Senate that he enjoyed being the budget chair. Finance - The committee passed Bill 116 to Second Reading. Judiciary - As reported in the Calendar. Internal Affairs - The committee finished the report for all the bureaus. Closing Announcements: Senator Harrison thanked Senate President Hahn for a job well done and for being an amazing guy and a man of integrity. Senator Botchway told Senate President Hahn that she loved him and he did a great job as Senate President. Senator Freelove announced that COBOL is this Saturday and he is representing 4 groups. Senator LaCroix said that he met Senate President Hahn at the FSU Law Camp and he, along with Senator Hicks, persuaded him to become a Senator. Senator Cole gave a shout out to the Student Affairs Committee. Senator Hicks thanked Senators Hooper, Faeh and Botchway for a job well done. Senator Hooper said that SGA was a huge part of his life for 2 years. Senator Faeh said he learned something from everybody. Senate President Hahn said when he joined SGA he was a wide eye kid and the experience turned him into an adult. He said that it was difficult working with Senate President Pendas at times but he grew as a person. He chastised those Senators that he said did things that they knew were not right. FINAL ROLL CALL: The Senate adjourned Sine Die.
