The meeting of the 60th Student Senate was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Student Senate President Nathasha Cole. Senator former Senator Kim Copley led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Moment of Silent Reflection:

Student Comments: Kim Copley, of the Governor’s Office, told the Senate that there are 50 different intern positions open and you can get class credit from some of the positions. She told the Senate that Senators Primiani, Firat, and Singh are all interns in the Governor’s Office. Copley said that the deadline for applying is November 30 and group interviews are every other Friday at 3 p.m. She stipulated that in order to be eligible for an internship you must be able to work 15-20 hours per week. For more information go to www.flgov.com/internships. Senator Entine told the Senate that there will be an open hearing on the A&S Fee increase. He said that he thought it was good to raise the health fee. He said that the university is looking at having a women’s varsity sport next year, he did not say which one. Laura Wooford of Garnet and Gold Key tapped Kelly-Ann Fasano, Nicole Williams tapped Stephen Jackson and Nicole Vouvalis tapped Carter Harrison. Senate President Cole announced that Senator Nick Thompson is the new Union Board representative from the Senate and Senator R. Thompson is the ex-officio member of the College of Engineering Allocations Committee. Special Introductions and Announcements: Vice President for Finance and Administration, John Carnaghi, told the Senate that he is always looking for business and finance majors who want to stay at FSU after they graduate and to talk to him if you are interested. He informed the Senate that there is an fee increase of five percent to undergraduate students starting in January 2008 and you will pay $3.68 per credit hour more totaling $77.39 per hour in January. He said the new technology fee will go into effect in Fall 2009. Carnaghi said that it is extremely difficult to cut programming when the university is growing, however, 15 people will lose their jobs at FSU and he is the one that has to tell them. He said the fees in Florida are lower than any other states. He said they have had to raise the fees on transcripts, FSU Card and Orientation and the local fees such as the A&S Fee and the Athletic Fee, which are up by $1.15. Messages from the Executive Branch: Jessica Haskins said that on Friday, November 16, from 3-5 p.m. there will be a Golden Global event. She tapped Andrew Gonzalez for Garnet and Gold Key Messages from Agency and Bureau Directors, and SGA Organization Officers and Employees: Jose Requena, HLSU Director, announced that their second general body meeting of the semester will take place on November 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Culpepper Auditorium. He told the Senate that the Dream Act Campaign was voted on 2 weeks ago and it failed - the measure needed 60 votes to pass and only got 52. He said it was a victory for the Coalition at FSU because their main objective was to get Mel Martinez to change his vote and he did. Requena said they will work on the Dream Act on the state level. Keenan Mahoney, IRHC Assistant Director, announced that they will be traveling to the University of Florida for the SACCURH Conference and they will take 15 delegates. He announced that Residence Hall Week is next week and they have a lot of events scheduled. David Grimes, ILS Director, announced that their first event will take place at the Pride Student Union Center where they will have a potluck dinner. He told the Senate that he wants to do a Social Justice panel and he is working with the Union to put together a panel on non-discrimination and they are meeting with the Institute for Conservative Studies to discuss liberal and conservative ideas. Messages from the Congress of Graduate Students: None. Messages from the Senior Class Council: None. Messages from the Judicial Branch: None. Messages from the Union Board: Brittany, Union Board Member, said they are looking to fill two positions on the Board. She said the funding allocations have been completed. She also announced that Breakfast 4 A Buck will be on November 16 and 30. Messages from Campus Recreation: Adam Fox introduced the Campus Recreation Board. He said they are trying to get equipment for disabled students. Report of the Student Body Auditor: As of November 6, 2007, Senate Projects is $14,700.00. Committee Reports: Student Affairs - Chairman Toole told the Senate that they tabled today and ran out of surveys. She said they will table with the Executive next week. Budget - The committee approved Resolution 4. Finance - As reported in the Calendar. Judiciary - As reported in the Calendar. Internal Affairs - The Senate interviewed and passed Jose Requena for MARC Board of Directors, Amanda Hernandez for Underclassmen Council Treasurer, Ian Johnson for Asian American Student Union Public Relations Chair, Christa Markley for Student Broadcast Center Assistant Director, Jean Baptiste Francois for Secretary of Athletic Affairs and James Chung for Asian American Student Union Treasurer. Rules and Calendar - Chairman Kushner said that the committee approved absences and accepted the resignation of Senators Fishel and Mariea. The committee postponed Resolution 2 for three weeks. Sweepings - Chairman Harrison said that the committee passed Bill 6. Purpose: to restructure the PSU budget to account for the operating costs associated with the LGBTQ Student Resource Center. TABLED IN FINANCE. Bill 2 - Sponsored by Senators Cutler and Przybylowicz. A revision of $500.00 within the Pride Student Union from Contractual Services to Food. Purpose: to restructure the PSU budget to account for the operating costs associated with the LGBTQ Student Resource Center. TABLED IN FINANCE. Bill 7 - Sponsored by Senator Entine. An allocation of $2,080 from Senate Projects to Student Supreme Court Expense. Purpose: to provide the Student Supreme Court with necessary equipment for functionality and increased productivity. REFERRED TO FINANCE. Bill 8 - Sponsored by Senators Entine and Seifter. A revision to the Student Body Statues Chapter 700. Purpose: to make necessary clarifications and changes to the Elections Code in its entirety. REFERRED TO FINANCE AND JUDICIARY. Bills Second Reading: Bill 5 - Sponsored by Senators Goins, N. Thompson, R. Thompson, Dawson and Howard. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapter 805.5. Purpose: to add contractual services to the Finance Code. PASSED. Bill 6 - Sponsored by Senator Harrison. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapter 412.1. Purpose: to codify the requirements for amending the Sweepings and Central Reserves bills. POSTPONED ONE WEEK. (There was a motion by Senator Entine to postpone. The motion passed by a vote of 26-yes and 10-no). Constitutional Amendments: None. Resolutions: Resolution 2 - Sponsored by Senator Freelove. Subject: Requiring that the vice chair of a committee shall serve six (6) weeks in Senate prior to assuming the chair. POSTPONED 3 WEEKS IN RULES AND CALENDAR. Resolution 4 - Sponsored by Senator Sokos. Subject: Approving the Business School Allocations Committee disbursement of funds. PASSED. Unfinished Business: New Business: Senate President Cole applauded all Senators who came to the Town Hall meeting and if you were not there it constitutes an absence because it was mandatory that you attended. She said that she will be announcing the agenda for Senate and it will include things the Senate will actively work for or towards. Closing Announcements: Senator Toole said that only 9 Senators signed up for the Senate potluck. She announced that the committee will meet on tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the Senate Office. Senator Fasano thanked everyone who came out to Bryan Hall 100th anniversary. Senator Cutler announced that the Pride Student Union Research Center will have an open house on Tuesday, November 13. Senator Frady supported the FSU football for the game this weekend against Virginia Tech. Senator Hamilton thanked everyone who came to Off Campus Housing Day. Senator Brandow announced that there will be a choral holiday concert on November 27. Senator Jackson invited everyone to the Black Student Union Black Revolutionary Museum, where there is a lot of knowledge to be obtained. Senate Pro Tempore Kushner said that the Executive has set a goal at registering 20 people, per cabinet member, to vote and the Senate will have 20 people also. He asked the new Senators to stay and take a quiz after Senate. Senate President Cole told Senator Slade that she is proud of him. She asked the Senators to please check their e-mails especially the one pertaining to crime alerts, they are very serious and you should spread the word. She told the Senate that the applications for the MLK Mentorship Program are available. Cole thanked everyone who attended the Town Hall Meeting. She also applauded the Off Campus Housing Office for a job well done.
