Area of research focuses on the way small and new states conduct foreign policy and the challenges they face in building statehood. How nationalism plays a role in developing and conducting foreign policy and national identity. Research Agenda:My research looks at the way small and newly independent countries operate within regional and international political frameworks, their role in international organizations and alliances as well as the domestic constraints they might face in conducting foreign policies. Current teaching and research interest focuses on the role of trans-national groups (diasporas) on the foreign and domestic socio-political processes of their countries of origin, focusing on Iran and the former Soviet Union.
