Baroque Humanities; philosophies of love; Albert Schweitzer.
Books include Imitatio: Polémicas sobre la imitación
en el Siglo de Oro español (1985), Diego Hurtado de Mendoza
(1987), and Converting Fiction: Counter Reformational Closure
in the Secular Literature of Golden Age Spain (1998). Current
research is on the various manifestations of love philosophies in
the European Middle Ages, and the writings of Francisco de Quevedo.
