Masters Program in Instructional Systems with an emphasis in Performance Systems Design

 The 36 semester hour Masters of Science degree program in Instructional Systems with an emphasis in Performance Systems Design includes all of the normal course requirements for an MS in Instructional Systems. In addition, nine credit hours have been removed from the 15 hours of elective credits and are included among the required courses. A further requirement concerns the internship which must include work assignments in the area of performance system design. Following is the list of courses and a comment regarding the internship.

Core Courses

  • EDP 5216 Theories of Learning and Cognition in on (3)
  • EME 5601 introduction to Instructional Systems (3)
  • EME 5603 Introduction to Systematic Instructional design (3)
  • EME 5055 Trends and Issues in Instructional Design (3)
  • EME 5932 Seminar in Instructional Design (1)
  • EME 5942 Field Internship* (2)
  • EME 6691 Performance Systems Analysis (3)

    One of the following two courses:

  • EME 6415 Development of Computer Courseware (3)
  • EME 6640 Design and Development of Electronic Performance Support Systems (3)

    Two of the following three courses:

  • EDG Needs Assessments for Performance and System Planning (3)
  • EME 6631 Managing Instructional Development (3)
  • EME 6633 Educational Systems Design (3)

Electives

Nine hours of electives, three of which are to be within the Instructional Systems area and three in an outside area related to performance system development. The most relevant outside areas are Communications, Information Systems, Business, and Adult Education (HRD).

Summary

Required core hours = 27; electives = 9. Total: 36 hours.

Your advisor, or other Instructional Systems Program representative, will be able to verify that you have completed the requirements for this emphasis area. This emphasis area does not constitute a certificate.

*The internship must include some work assignments related to performance systems design.
