Combined BA / MA ProgramThe combined Bachelor's/Master's degree program allows motivated students to combine work on the B.A. and M.A. degrees in order to complete both in a total of five years. Advanced undergraduate students take up to three graduate level courses for undergraduate credit. After completing the B.A. degree, those graduate courses then apply to the requirements for the M.A. degree in History. This program can do much to meet the needs of students who wish to accelerate their academic program. It is a demanding program, and as such is designed for students whose academic performance is exceptional. In order to be accepted to the combined degree program, students must have completed 90 semester hours of credit in their undergraduate program and earned a minimum of 3.0 GPA at FSU. Transfer students must have completed a minimum of two semesters (24 hours) at FSU and earned a minimum 3.0 GPA at FSU. To apply to the program, students should meet as early as possible with the Department’s Academic Advisor to plan a course of study. After speaking to the Academic Advisor, students can begin a two step process for admission to the program. First, students apply to the Combined Degree Program using the application below. Students would normally apply to the Combined Degree Program in their junior year. If accepted, they should take the Graduate Record Examination by the first semester of their senior year. Second, students should then make a formal application on-line to the Department of History and the Graduate School during their senior year. Courses in which a student earns less than a "B-" will not be counted toward the M.A. degree. A maximum of 12 graduate credit hours may be taken while completing the B.A. Courses already taken for undergraduate credit may not be taken for graduate credit. The Department’s deadline for fall and summer admissions is January 10th, while the deadline for spring admissions is October 1st.
