DR. BEVERLY L. BOWER
As the daughter of two public school teachers, Dr. Beverly L. Bower has spent her personal and professional life involved in education. In 1973, upon receiving her B. S. in Education from the University of Kansas, she began teaching French and English in high schools in the Midwest and southern United States and in South Korea. She received her Masters in Library Science in 1980 at which time she moved into the higher education system as a librarian and library administrator at Pensacola Junior College, Pensacola, Florida. After earning a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University in 1992, she joined the faculty at the University of South Carolina as a community college specialist. At USC she was involved in a number of projects, including establishing a leadership certificate program for community college professionals and providing training in participatory management for educational administrators in South Africa. She returned to FSU as a faculty member in the Higher Education Program in 1997. Dr. Bower has been actively involved in several national education associations, serving on committees and/or holding offices in the Association for the Study of Higher Education, the American Education Research Association--Postsecondary Division, and the Council for the Study of Community Colleges. Dr. Bower's publication and research interests relate to the mission of the community college, "broadcast education", and minorities and women in higher education.
