ADJUNCT APPOINTMENT

  • Always 4-Month type.
  • Manual contract must be prepared for all OPS Adjunct employees (4 month
    contracts). Blank sets of the current contracts are available from Vann Gardner, Budget and Analysis Office (644-1501).
  • Temporary appointment of persons with satisfactory professional qualifications who perform temporary teaching of UNDERGRADUATE COURSES ONLY, research, or extension functions in connection with establish programs.
  • Compensated on a per course basis and paid from OPS funds.
  • May be employed no more than 50% FTE throughout a year – Fall semester through Summer semester (or full time no more than 26 weeks of the full year).
  • Appointments must be done for one semester at a time. Beginning and ending dates are not allowed to cross over from one semester to another. Separate change orders must be completed for each semester.
  • The course prefix, number and credit hours must be indicated in the “COMMENTS” section of the pPAF for any course an adjunct is teaching.
  • Adjuncts are not permitted to teach graduate level courses.
  • If a re-employed State of Florida retiree is appointed as an Adjunct, “re-employed retiree: pay Medicare only” must be indicated in the “REMARKS” section (retirees do not pay social security).
  • Even though a Termination Change Order is not required for Adjuncts, a Termination Checklist must be submitted to the Dean of the Faculties' Office when the Adjunct is terminated.

VISITING IN LIEU OF ADJUNCTS
(follow the same guidelines as the Adjunct Appointments)

  • Always 9-month type.
  • Temporary appointments of persons with satisfactory professional qualifications who perform temporary teaching of GRADUATE COURSES ONLY (or combination of Graduate/Undergraduate) in connection with established programs.
  • Compensated on a per course basis and paid from OPS funds.
  • May be employed no more than 50% FTE throughout a year – Fall semester through Summer semester (or full time no more than 26 weeks of the full year).
  • Appointments must be done for one semester at a time. Beginning and ending dates are not allowed to cross over from one semester to another. Separate drafts must be completed for each semester.
  • The course prefix, number and credit hours must be indicated in the “COMMENTS” section of the pPAF for any course an adjunct is teaching.
  • If a re-employed State of Florida retiree is appointed as an Visiting in Lieu of
    Adjunct, “re-employed retiree: pay Medicare only” must be indicated in the
    “COMMENTS” section (retirees do not pay social security).
